Why Training Abs Every Day is Completely Wrong and Dangerous
Who doesn’t want to have an enviable six-pack? Who doesn’t crave that flat stomach and groovy abs? But if you’re slogging for hours each day at training your abs, all you’re doing is wasting your precious time. What’s more you could even end up seriously injuring your abdominal muscles.
There are various opinions on why abs should or shouldn’t be trained everyday. Many prefer training abs everyday while some train them every other day. Others however go further to advocate training different abdominal muscles everyday. There are multiple muscles in the abdominal region. They endorse doing lower abs one day, and then the middle, upper and obliques alternatively on different days. But even rigorous ab training does not help get rid of that pot belly. This is because ab training only trains the abdominal muscles which are hidden under the layers of fat. For these muscles to be visible you have to get rid of the fat first.
Abs should be trained in the same way as you train other body parts. Abdominal muscles need time to recuperate just like the muscles in your biceps and legs. When you train your muscles they develop tiny tears that need to be repaired. If you train abs everyday the ab muscles have no time to rest and recover from the stress caused by ab workouts. Overtraining can also cause muscle imbalances which may lead to lower back problems in later years. Therefore, training abs everyday only strains the muscles and does not give them anytime to recover and grow. This can be potentially very dangerous.
Ideally, most fitness experts suggest that ab training should be done only twice or thrice a week. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that by working your abs everyday you’re actually cutting the fat off your belly. No matter how often or how much you train your abs that gut is just not going to disappear. So, if you think that you can eat all the fattening stuff in the world and then train your abs to lose the fat you are sadly mistaken. A healthy diet and high impact aerobics is the best way to melt that fat. Daily ab training is definitely not an option.
